Here are a few things to keep in mind if you plan to purchase a home in the near future:
- Do not change jobs or become self-employed
- Don’t make any major purchases, such as a vehicle or appliances
- Don’t use your credit cards or apply for new credit
- Pay down your credit balances, don’t make any late payments
- Start interviewing lenders, compare the products and services each one offers
- Be patient, even the quickest deals require patience
- Figure out what your priorities are – Schools? Neighborhood? Price? Pool?
- Make sure the funds you use for your down payment are “seasoned” – meaning that funds have been in your bank account for at least 60 days. Proof of funds will be required when you make an offer to purchase a home.
- If you decide to purchase a Short Sale, don’t be in a hurry. These can take 60 to 180 days.
- Your typical costs can include – Credit Score Check, Appraisal and Inspections, etc
